I have that Love-Hate relationship with "Rainy Days". It's making me feel happy and sad at the same time. There are times that I'm super ok with it, I find it comforting and relaxing too. But also, there are times that I super hate it lalo na may pa thunder and lightning sa taas. But also during the rainy season, I\ve noticed na mas mabilis ako magutom, Kayo din ba? or OMG don't tell me ako lang ang nakakaramdam nito? That's why I make sure I am well-prepared stocking up foods at home bukod sa it's a must during this bagyo season. Being a mom of 3, I should be armed with few tips and tricks to keep my kids warm, cozy and happy during tag-ulan and a big part of it it food talaga, diba? But this post is not about me being a mommy, timeout muna jan! Because for today, this post is a kind of get to know me better blog entry. For I'll be sharing you my darkest secret of all. Being a takot magutom foodie in me. So this is it, I present to you my "Top 10 Pick Comfort Food for the Rainy Days.

Aci Girl's Top 10 Pick Comfort Food for The Rainy Days | No.10 Ilocos Empanada
Ilocos Empanada: an Ilocano delicacy that is super filling and super sarap when served hot para super crunchy partner'an pa ng the best suka nila! P.S with egg dapat para mas nakakabusog. Comes with pale yellow and bright orange crust color varies depending on the which part of Ilocos you are buying.

Aci Girl's Top 10 Pick Comfort Food for The Rainy Days | No.9 It's a tie: Sisig & Kilawin

Sisig: is made from pig's head (face and ears) and liver chopped finely, seasoned and served in a hot plate. Sometimes I like sisig crunchy, sometimes I like it chunky. As for the Kilawin: I like it seasoned perfectly, a hint of spiciness and just right sourness in it. Dilis, Tuna or Tanigue I want it all.

Aci Girl's Top 10 Pick Comfort Food for The Rainy Days | No.8 Bulalo
Bulalo: A hot delicious soup is always a good way to go during the rainy season. I like it with tons of cabbage. I also like it peppery and super tasty if possible. OMG, now I'm drooling recalling the Bulalo's I've had.

Aci Girl's Top 10 Pick Comfort Food for The Rainy Days | No.7 Hamburger

Hamburgers: with melted cheese, beefy patty, crispy bacon, caramelized onion, and mayo garlic. PERFECT!

Aci Girl's Top 10 Pick Comfort Food for The Rainy Days | No.6 Ramen

My Ultimate Favorites

Aci Girl's Top 10 Pick Comfort Food for The Rainy Days | No.3 Taho
Taho!!!
Thank you for our daily dose of Taho. Rain of shine si Manong Magtataho is always a shout out away. I like the almost silky texture of Taho served hot making it super fresh and madalas nga nakakapaso pa. Taho is made from Soybeans, an early stage of tofu ata if I'm right. Topped with syrup and sweetened tapioca (arnibal at sago) Yum!!!

Aci Girl's Top 10 Pick Comfort Food for The Rainy Days | No.2 Hot Chocolate

Hot Chocolate Drink!

A Perfect Pick-me-upper! I am always on the lookout for every cafe's version of a hot chocolate drink. Most were forgettable and ilan-ilan lang talaga ang super ok. That's why I didn't expect much on instant and powdered chocolate drink mixes out in the market kasi nga kung sa cafe's so-so lang what more can you expect from an instant mix, right? But wait wag ka!!! Some are super good, like this one! "Goya Everyday Plus" from Goya!

Aci Girl's Top 10 Pick Comfort Food for The Rainy Days | No.1 Chocolates
and last but not the least...

Chocolates!!!
Yes, Chocolates on No.1 Spot.

Kailangan ko pa bang mag explain? I am actually a chocoholic. Halata ba sa the best hot chocolate drink hunt ko? This all started with my sweet tooth and my fondness for chocolates! BTW, Who doesn't love chocolate ba? If you don't, parang ang sad naman nun diba? Chocolates taste better and fuller pag Dark. Yes, Dark Chocolates have that super chocolatey taste. Mas full ang chocolate taste kaya bet na bet ng mga chocoholic like me.

But FYI. I stay away on chocolates with raisin ah. Kaya if you are going to give me chocolate alam mo na ha! *wink

Chocolates serve an important role in my life. It instantly brightens my day, It sure does make me happy. Also, nakaka-energized din that's why Chocolates are my best friends! With me being mabilis magutom and minsan kahit saan na lang ako inaabutan, mag baon ng Goya chocolates is a must. Plus being hungry makes me grumpy most of the time kaya this is my baon talaga. And alam mong afford mo sya, Dabah?

Pero in this post, aside from sharing my Darkest Secret of being matakaw and maarte,
I will share din to you guys happiness the same way Chocolates was for me.
I will be ending this blog post with a giveaway!

Aci Girl at the  Emergency Preparedness Forum by SM Cares

I attended an Emergency Preparedness Forum facilitated by SM Cares that happened last July 9 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City. SM Cares is the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of SM Prime Holdings. This year's Emergency Preparedness Forum concentrates its focus on Children and Youth with Disabilities between the age of 10-30.

Emergency Preparedness Forum for Children and Youth with Disabilities

SM CARES: Emergency Preparedness Forum for Children and Youth with Disabilities

I am a panic-kera mom and is always in search and wanting to know how or what to do during an emergency and relaying it to my kids. Yes, I am always instructing them of what they should do in case of fire, earthquake, and calamities especially when they were at school or at even when at home and I'm not around. You know what they say, Iba na ang may alam.

The forum aims to provide substantial information about the reality of a potential earthquakes scenario in Metro Manila, as well as making them better prepared for disasters and calamities. The attendees will be comprised of young people who are blind, deaf, with physical/orthopedic impairment, with Down syndrome, Autism, and those with rare disorders.

Second Topic: Preparing for and Surviving an Earthquake with Dr. Ted Esguerra.
Operational Medicine Instructor of the International Disaster Response Network,
To my surprise, some of the tips that I shared with my kids were actually wrong. OMG! I am Shocked! Some of it was what I learned on the internet and some are during my elementary and high school days during our emergency drills. Actually, some of those tips are still being thought to at their previous schools although a hard hat and an emergency bags are what seems to be more new and updated for me.

What am I talking about? For example, in case of an earthquake, kids at school were tasked to leave the building in an orderly manner wearing their hard hats also carrying the emergency bag and walking with their heads down. And or at the quadrangle sitting still waiting for the earthquake to stop still covering their head and looking down.

During an earthquake or any other calamities, looking down is a not so good thing to do at all. We and kids should always be aware of the surrounding and should always be alert for whatever stuff that may hit us from all directions. So, Adults and kids should NOT look down or in bowing our heads position in times like this and just covering the head. We should look forward, left and right, up and down as much as possible scoping what may come our way during an earthquake or any calamities.

My Top Learnings During The Emergency Preparedness Forum for Children and Youth with Disabilities

1. Don't Panic. Always remain calm.
2. Stock Up on Batteries, Food, Water, First Aid Medicines and Antibiotics and don't forget about Duct Tapes it has its own magic. Kidding aside a duct tape may come in handy for first aids etc.
3. Have a Family Emergency Contingency Plan. Expect the cellular phone signals and electricity to be unavailable. So strategize what your family should do, where to go when you got separated, and be mindful of the emergency protocols.
4. Educate the kids about it too. (in my case updating them is a must) so they can be ready during an emergency. Try simulating a drill so that they can be aware of what might happen and what they should do about it. Getting familiar with it lessens the kids feeling of being scared or panicky.
5. Be armed with the right knowledge, resources, strength, and mindset and be ready for what might happen.

Taking part in the Coastal Clean Up at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Critical Habitat (LPPCHEA)

I saw what GENFEST 2018: Day 2: "Hands 4 Humanity" was all about. It was a Coastal Clean-Up that took place at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Critical Habitat (LPPCHEA) And Yes!!! ALL THAT "KALAT"  IS FOR REAL...

This post may not boost your mood to hit like or share or maybe even some of you won't bother reading it. Yes! this is not flashy, fancy, goody-good artsy post that might get you interested and or even curious enough to scroll up. BUT THIS IS REAL LIFE HAPPENINGS... True to life story, snaps and ganaps not just around the metro city, not only in the Philippines but the whole wide world.

Tons of waste from all over the world and some of us are not even disposing of garbage properly. More and more news is out about garbage, and most plastics were contaminating the oceans, rivers and other bodies of water resulting for animals living in it to grow abnormally and worse is that they die.

On a lighter note, I admire people who are mindful of their trashes, who's up for segregating and recycling, who are minimizing or avoiding the use of plastics in their lifestyles, and those who would go an extra mile for their care to Mother Earth, giving time and joining clean-up drives, and advocacy's alike.

One of the best examples would be the area of Las Pinas- Paranaque Critical Habitat (LPPCHEA) where an effort to collect all the garbage there was made,  a significant decrease in the volume of trash was seen.

A boatmen living in the area told me that that garbage is not from there. It was just brought there by the waves coming from someplace else. Together with his fellow boatmen, they were cleaning it up to maintain the cleanliness of LPPCHEA station 10. If people would only be mindful of their wastes, disposing of it properly, recycle if they must, It'll be a huge help not just for LPPCHEA but for the world as well.

Coca-Cola Philippines took real action on the phenomenon and didn't get the fuzz of being dirty and also didn't mind the stinky smell. They were all there cleaning up what's left of that not so looking good shore and just did an awesome job to act on it. They participated in the Coastal Clean up last July 7 together with the delegates of GENFEST 2018. Day 2 "Hands for Humanity"

Plastic, Rubber, and Styro
Some of the garbage's washed ashore are driftwoods, coconut husk, leaves, broken toys, footwear, tin cans, soiled diapers, plastic wrappers, plastic cups, plastic bags... Ok, ok, mostly plastics or else the list would be long. But on this particular clean-up drive Plastic, Rubber and Styro are the main stuff to collect and to be disposed of. Each garbage bag should contain only 1 kind of waste. If you opted for plastics, it should only be all made from plastics for segregation and proper garbage disposal.

After hours of hard work... a cleaner coast than it was earlier appears. Even though it saddens me to see that the color of the water in it was blackish. I still hope and pray that people will start to care and act on it too. Simply doing our part can contribute a lot.  In our own little way, we can all help in making this world a better place.
