Ayala Land furthers its thrust of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle by rallying a new breed of athletes as it unveiled another exciting spectacle—the Vermosa Active Revolution—to be held on December 3 and 4 inside the 700-hectare master-planned, mixed-use estate development in Cavite.

At the Vermosa Active Revolution press launch, guests were treated to a head start of what to expect during the two-day event, as well as a sneak peek of the special line-up of performers headlined by Drop and Roll, led by world-renowned street trials rider Danny MacAskill and his crew, to highlight their first visit to the Philippines and the Asian region as part of their world tour.

Gear up for an active lifestyle revolution

The Ninja Academy will also mount a parkour obstacle course for festival goers to try out together with other surprises, while a poi LED exhibition performance by Planet Zips will cap-off a night of fun-filled activities.

The Inspire Zone will host one of the South’s biggest sports and lifestyle expos, where attendees can jumpstart their active living through great deals and finds from the country’s hottest retail brands such as JB Sports, KTM Bikes, Fox Gear, Columbia, Top Bike Shops, and many more.

T'is the season to be jolly, to be merry and bright and in line with this are the wide spread of festive dishes for you and your family to savour and share. But it is also a season of giving, caring and love. Not to spoil the good vibes but a lot of our fellow Filipino's won't have any food for their tables. Lucky us the only problem we were into is what menu to prepare for Christmas and New Years' Eve, as for others, even preparing a decent meal is so hard and most of the time, "itinutulog na  lang". Sad Truth it is.

Holiday season's good vibes are at its best when shared.  Did you know that the simple act of ordering a dish can help alleviate malnutrition in the Philippines? From November 15, 2016 to January 15, 2017, international non-government organization Action Against Hunger together with partner restaurants and top chefs are bringing to life the Restaurants Against Hunger campaign. This campaign aims to save the lives of malnourished children in the Philippines through ‘DISHES THAT FEED MORE’ in participating restaurants. When ordered, proceeds from these dishes go to Action Against Hunger’s programs in alleviating extreme malnutrition across the country.

This is already been happening for the past 40 years in nearly 50 countries. Action Against Hunger has led the global fight against hunger. Committed to ending world hunger, work to save the lives of malnourished children while providing communities with access to safe water and sustainable solutions to hunger. Ensuring that the marginalized and most at risk have access to clean water, food, training and healthcare. Enabling communities to be free from hunger. Here in the Philippines, Action Against Hunger has helped more than 500,000 people directly in 2015 alone. Of the 500,000, more than 30,000 were helped with nutrition programs – particularly saving lives via the prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, in particular during and following disasters and conflicts.

Action Against Hunger continues to respond to these pressing issues and we want to reach more people to help and support us as we unlock children’s potential and possibly give them something to look forward to in the future, - says Javad Amoozegar, Country Director for Action Against Hunger Philippines.
Hoping to raise more funds for ending hunger in the Philippines, Action Against Hunger is following the footsteps of its global counterparts by launching the Restaurants Against Hunger this 2016. Tracing back its roots from World Food Day in France back in 1998, Restaurants Against Hunger was also launched in UK, US, Canada, and Spain. The campaign is also currently running in Italy, Germany, Peru, Colombia and Bolivia. Joining the roster of multi-awarded chefs from around the globe, including the world’s star chef John Roca, the Philippines own Chef Roland Laudico is a proud ambassador for the worthy cause.

Restaurants Against Hunger makes me realize that our craft goes beyond mere cooking, it also transforms into a stronger cause that enables us to have a chance to make someone’s future healthy, - says Chef Roland Laudico

There are over 103 establishments currently enlisted and participating through this campaign which also includes their other branches. Action Against Hunger hopes that more restaurants sign up before December 15.
It’s high time that we address this issue together and put up an advocacy that really encourages people to help fight malnutrition in their own ways— a simple act of ordering a dish can make a big difference, - says Amoogezar.

In March 2016, Action Against Hunger released a report on the Socio-economy of Chronic Malnutrition in the Philippines. The Philippines, a lower-middle income country, is among the fastest-growing economies in Southeast Asia. However, sustained economic development has not manifested in a significant reduction of high stunting prevalence: 33.4% of children under-5 years old nationwide in 2015. This means that 1 in 3 Filipino children below five years old is too short for their age. Failure to achieve optimum child growth and development is attributed to several factors including poverty.
High national stunting prevalence rates in the Philippines, along with very modest progress in stunting reduction over time, makes stunting one of the biggest challenges the country faces as it economically develops.  Stunted growth is not only about what we can see with our eyes but it also about poor intellectual development.  Stunting is more than just a health issue as it has an impact on adult productivity and Philippines’ future. As stunting is a big challenge, it calls for a big effort among all Filipinos. Each one can make a meaningful contribution, - says Amoozegar.

Through this campaign is set in channeling the Filipino passion for food into life-saving impact against hunger and child malnutrition. Next time you'll dine in these participating restaurants, order their DISHES THAT FEED MORE, and give children a healthier future:

8 Cuts, Beni’s Falafel, Chelsea Grand Café, Chelsea Kitchen, Chotto Matte,  Corazon, Crisostomo, Crying Tiger, Cyma, El Cabrito, El Chupacabra, El Corazon, Elias, Feast, Felix, Florabel, Green Pastures, Grilla Filipino Cuisine, Guevarra’s, Izakaya Sensu, Kabila, Manam, Melt Grilled Cheesery, Mexicali, Museum Café, OK Café, Ooma, Potts Point Café, Providore, Saboten, Señor Pollo, Simple Lang, Stella & Rocket Room, Terraz Bistro & Meetings, Terry's Bistro, The Café Mediterranean, The Corner Tree Café, The Old Spaghetti House, The Shrimp Shack, and Wild Ginger.

Together, let’s make every dish truly count.

Herbalife Nutrition At Work Survey Reveals Filipino Millennials Desire Healthy, Active Workplace Environment

While the survey conducted reveals that more Filipino millennials are engaging in regular physical activities outside  work, they find it difficult to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle in the modern workplace.

Herbalife Nutrition, a global nutrition company, has released the findings from its Asia Pacific Millennials At Work Survey1, which revealed that Filipino millennials are adapting to a healthy, active lifestyle, however, most believe their current workplace environment prevents them from doing so.

Millennials, or people born in between 1980 and 2000, are opting for a workplace that will encourage them to stay active if only this will be embedded in every company culture.  About 83 percent or eight (8) in 10 millennials have agreed that they would like their company workplace to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle.

With the millennial generation expected to make up 50 percent of the global workforce by 2020, ensuring the wellbeing of millennials will be important to improving workplace productivity.

“There are about 35 million millennials now in the Philippines, which is about one-third of the country’s entire population. Five years from now, millennials will be dominating the labor force. While most millennials want to lead healthy lives, they face real obstacles at work in doing so,”said Rosalio Valenzuela, Herbalife Philippines General Manager.
“At Herbalife Nutrition, we provide our employees with nutrition products at work, subsidize gym memberships, hold regular wellness programs related to nutrition and well-being, and encourage participation in outdoor activities and sports competitions.”

Additionally, the survey findings revealed the following:·
Seven (7) out of 10 millennials strive to live healthy, active lives.  However, the majority of millennials find it challenging to maintain an active lifestyle at work – eight (8) out of 10 millennials spend 6 to 13 hours at their work desk each day, and 64% of millennials get less than 30 minutes of physical activity - including standing, stretching and walking at work on an average work day.

·    Additionally, 64% of millennials cited the “lack of time” as the key obstacle to engaging in physical activity at work.

To provide tips on how millennials and their employers can integrate positive nutrition and lifestyle habits at their workplaces, Herbalife Nutrition has organized a sixth Asia Pacific Wellness Tour, which builds upon the successes of the past five tours that welcomed over 100, 000  participants. Five experts from the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB) are scheduled to tour 21 Asian cities from October 7 to 30, to hold a series of talks, workshops and medical symposia across the region.

“Through these efforts, we hope to equip organizations and employees with the right tools to collectively build a healthier work environment across Asia Pacific,” said Valenzuela.
Julian Alvarez Garcia, M.D., Ph.D., a member of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board, will be visiting Manila for the Asia Pacific Wellness Tour this October. Julian Alvarez Garcia, M.D., Ph.D. will also be sharing expert advice on how millennials can adopt simple positive nutrition and lifestyle habits at work to improve their overall well-being in the long run.

Some of the tips to help foster a healthier millennial workforce include:

·     Nutrition:
Dedicate a healthy eating day each week and get colleagues involved in making healthy choices for lunch on this day.

Boost water intake to help the body digest food, rid the body of toxins, and help deliver nutrients to the cells. Drink at least eight (8) glasses or two (2) liters of water a day.

Have a protein shake combined with non-fat milk and healthy fruit for breakfast. With 20-30 grams of protein and low-fat contents, it can provide the body with all the nutrition it needs to power through the day.

·      Active Living:
Create a playlist that incorporates upbeat music and play with hourly intervals.
Use Running Apps to keep energized and on-pace during regular runs.
Set a goal to join running competitions to motivate self to sustain an active lifestyle.

1Herbalife’s Millennials At Work Survey was conducted in 2016, with 5,500 respondents aged 18 and above, from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
