Mapúa University debuts on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and is ranked Top 1501+ among 1,799 universities across 104 countries!


Mapua University's debut on the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR) 2023 has placed it among the top six percent of the world's higher education institutions.

The achievement is a result of a 20-year campaign focused on teaching quality and capability, research, and international linkages, according to Mapua University president and chief executive officer Reynaldo B. Bea during the institution's Thanksgiving Celebration recently.

Mapua University performed outstandingly by Subject, where it ranked 801+ for computer science, 1001+ for engineering, and 1001+ for physical sciences.

One out of the only 4 universities from the Philippines who made it to the list! Another remarkable achievement was MAPUA also performed outstandingly by Subject.

"It is the outcome of a two-decades-long drive, and the concerted efforts of the entire Mapua community-students, faculty, administrative staff, alumni, officers, and trustees," Vea added.

Research was Mapua's strongest advantage in the WUR which ranked 1139. The university has published 1,694 SCOPUS-index, internationally-vetted research papers since 2-17, making it the second highest in research among the four Philippine THE-listed universities.

Most of the research articles were on electrical, electronics, and computer engineering with 648; industrial engineering with 334; chemical, biological, environmental, and materials sciences and engineering with 226; and information technology with 186. Of these, 179 were published by faculty members, while students co-authored 1,462

The university also performed remarkably in the global ranking's other criteria, which included citations - Rank 1703; industry income - Rank 1716; teaching - Rank 1757; and international outlook - Rank 1771

Vea said that global rankings provide indisputable evidence of the quality of a Mapua education. With this stamp of quality, graduates and alumni benefit in terms of getting employment and being admitted to graduate school.

"The school itself would find it easier to find partners that would further raise the standards of its education and research, thereby generating a virtuous cycle of improvement, " he added.

With its new international status, the country's leading engineering and technology school is further challenged to imp0rovement of its curriculum, faculty, teaching methodologies, and research arm.

"Mapua University is heartened to have helped elevate the standing of Philippine higher education on the global stage. We will further raise the quality of Mapua education and research," Vea concluded.
